What is Reiki?

Reiki (pronounced ray-key) means universal life force. It is an ancient healing method that was rediscovered in the late 1800s and brought to the continental U.S. in 1973.

Reiki is noninvasive and involves light touch on a fully clothed body, although touch itself is not necessary and may not be desirable, say for a burn victim.

During Reiki sessions, I generally use a pattern of hand positions taught to me by John Harvey Gray. John was one of the original 22 U.S. Reiki Masters and has written the book, Hand to Hand,

Reiki is the one type of energy healing that many people have heard of. However, there is a lot of variation in how people use and teach Reiki.

What can I expect during an energy healing session?

You can be treated in a chair sitting up or on your own bed, but usually you will be asked to lie down fully clothed on a treatment table. The pattern will be different depending on the modality.

A session usually lasts an hour, although even five minutes can be beneficial.

Usually people feel great afterwards; sometimes they may want to rest. The balancing energies may continue to work after the session is completed.

What conditions can Reiki or Energy Healing help?

Reiki and energy healing work on balancing body, mind, and spirit; therefore, they facilitate the body's ability to heal itself.

As an overall guideline,you can consider them beneficial for:

• Relieving pain, anxiety, and stress;
• Improving chronic llness conditions;
• Enhancing general well being, clarity and focus;
• Maintaining wellness and overall physical, mental, and spiritual well-being,
• Relieving effects of trauma;
• some ADHD;
• Increasing energy and sense of harmony and well being;
• Improving sleep; and
• Facilitating spiritual growth.

I have also helped people with:

chemical sensitivities, headaches, migraines, and allergies

abuse issues, including sexual abuse,

stress from work, education, and divorce,

desire to facilitate successful psychotherapy,

improving quality of life in serious or terminal illness,

helping to deal with impending death of self or loved one.

Because the paradigm is different and this field is relatively new, there is not yet a lot of documentation of most types of energy healing and very little which is considered standard medicine.

For the most part, these benefits are those I have observed or worked with personally, which the Upledger Institute has documented for craniosacral therapy, or which are generally accepted among practitioners.

Isn't this just a placebo or New Age thing?

While many "New Age" people do Reiki and other energy healing, it is becoming more mainstream.

A number of chaplains use Reiki with their patients.

There have been several studies. The book Vibrational Medicine discusses Dr. Bernard Grad of McGill University showing that:

Energy healing counteracted induced thyroid dysfunction and resulted in a significantly faster rate of wound healing than controls.

Healer-treated plants had a higher chlorophyll content than untreated plants.

There is a nursing diagnosis of "energy field disturbance", which Reiki and other energy healing modalities can help.

How much does it cost? Where are you located?

As a special introduction to New Jersey, I am reducing the prices for single Reiki or energy healing sessions. A single session--in office or distance--will for a time have a reduced price of $60.

Reiki I training is $150; and Reiki II training costs $250. Gift certificates and discounts for relatives and friends taking the same Reiki class are available.

What is Dimensional Energy Healing?

Dimensional energy healing is a name I use to distinguish the 3-year program in energy healing I learned from Sue Greer. Sue is featured in Your Sixth Sense by Belleruth Naparstek and Cancer Community Healing Network by Carole O'Toole.

This healing:

Develops the natural gifts of the student based upon a rigorous personal healing journey and hundreds of hours of instruction.

Utilizes processes of intuition, prayer, Egyptian, Native American, and shamanic energy healing methods.

Accesses and works on multiple dimensions..

Facilitates deep healing.

Helps people be both more grounded and connected to spirit at the same time. (One client's acupuncturist noted that her acupuncture pulses had never been so healthy as they were several days after one of my healing sessions.)

What is CranioSacral Therapy?

Craniosacral therapy:

Is based on a ten-step protocol taught by the Upledger Institute, which is designed to assist in resolving most cases of craniosacral distress.

Has been shown to be effective in cases of chronic headaches, neck and back pain, TMJ dysfunction, chronic fatigue, eye problems, motor coordination difficulties, ADHD, and central nervous system disorders.

What is distance healing and how can I get one?

During a distance session, the energy is directed to you--but from a distance. Many people receiving distance healings can feel when I work on them and they are great when you really need work but cannot take time for a personal session.

You arrange for a distance session the same way you arrange for an in-person session. Ongoing clients can make an e-mail request, but I prefer that I speak personally to new clients. In addition, I prefer to speak to each client (or an authorized relative) at the beginning of each session and at the end (or the next day). This way, I can get an idea how the client perceives the problem, and there can be personal goal setting, and later feedback and suggestions to help.

What are Brain Gym(R) and Edu-K?

Brain Gym(R) and Edu-k (Educational Kinesiology) are movement based learning processes which help reeducate the brain to function at optimal levels. All of us have had experiences of wanting to accomplish certain things and simply being blocked. These include things like reading and math and also things like starting and operating a business and seeing and carrying out your life's purpose. Since my interest has been in helping myself and others live out their life's purpose, I was excited about the possibilities in this learning process and decided to learn more. I've studied a lot now and am well on my way to certification as a Brain Gym(R)-Edu-K Instructor/Consultant. In the meantime, this work enriches my ability to help people define and meet their life goals.
