Many people like to know about the people they will be working with to make their lives better. This page tells a little about
Anne Marie and how she came to study energy modalities.
Anne Marie has always been involved in helping people; it's just the form which has been different. As a salaried employee, now retired, she worked for the federal government for an anti-poverty program.
This part of her work derived from the inspiration of the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. and Robert Kennedy. While she was studying economics at Hunter College in New York City, they were touring several Southern States and finding the type of hunger and malnutrition you would have expected in the poorest countries of the world, not the U.S. It was natural for her to want to help.
During the 70s, she found it natural to want to combine career and child raising, so she became a pioneer on the Mommy Track, combining part time work with caring for her daughter.
During the 80s, Anne Marie pioneered in a new area. Following her interest in spirituality, she attended and obtained a Master's Degree from Wesley Theological Seminary in Washington, D.C--while continuing to work part time and raise her daughter. She began teaching adult classes--primarily in religion and spiritual development almost 30 years ago.
In the 90s, Anne Marie became another kind of pioneer -- in a way which was not particularly welcome to her at the time. She began studies in the mind-body-spirit connection when she became ill with a disabling illness.
As for every other time she was a pioneer, Anne Marie's decision to pursue energy healing as a client evolved naturally out of her life--and the "wall" which conventional thinking could not help her get around. While she could not describe in a scientific manner how and why energy healing "worked", she listened to her body and observed her increasing wellness and sense of harmony within. While it wasn't the entire answer to her health issues, Anne Marie recognized that it was beneficial enough to study it herself when one of the people she was working with in spiritual direction needed more help than she could give as a more conventional spiritual director.
In fact, her own former spiritual director, a pastor who has known her since 1989, has been fascinated with her journey. When he had occasion to reverse roles and work with her himself, he wound up calling Anne Marie, a "Spiritual Pioneer", noting that the work she has done has helped him envision new possibilities for his faith and life.
Among the energy modalities and the teachers she studied with were:
Reiki I, Reiki II, and Reiki II advanced topics with John Harvey Gray, one of the
original 22 U.S. Reiki Masters and author of Hand To Hand. She received her Reiki Master Teacher
certification from the Rev. Ethel Porter in 1999.
Spiritual
guidance and healing over several years and a 3-year energy intensive with the Rev. Sue Greer,
shaman and healer featured in Belleruth Naparstek, Your Sixth Sense and Carole O'Toole
Cancer Community Healing Network. After this 3-year intensive program, she was ordained a minister of spiritual healing in 2003.
Interfaith and metaphysical studies with Carol Parrish-Harra and others at Sancta Sophia Seminary in Oklahoma or its Maryland location. Anne Marie is currently pursuing certifications and a PhD degree program at the Seminary.
Multiple weekend energy healing classes with Rosalyn Bruyere, author of Wheels of Light, the best book on chakras there is.
Light Language and Light Language Teacher Training, primarily with Richard Gordon, author of The Intuitive Tarot, Spiritual Light Journey, and
Journey to the Golden Pyramid.
Brain Gym(r) and Educational Kinesiology training from numerous teachers, including Dr. Paul Dennison, the founder of Brain Gym. She completed her coursework and became certified to
teach Brain Gym and to offer Brain Gym and Educational Kinesiology consultations in 2005.
Intensive Journaling with Dr. Ira Progoff and leaders
in the field of 12 steps and spirituality.
And
much more. When your field is "the human condition" and you're studying what you love, study is one of the ways you have fun.
Anne Marie has always been a socially-conscious person, having served in multiple church, Girl Scout, disability community, and holistic community offices.
While in Maryland, she was a co-founder of The Learning Exchange,
a community based learning activity located in Bowie, Crofton,
and Mitchellville, Maryland and led holistic and spiritual
classes at local businesses and churches, the Census Bureau,
and Legacy College of the University of Maryland, Prince Georges Community College, Anne Arundel Community College, several senior centers, and more. Since moving to New Jersey, Anne Marie has worked mainly out of Lebanon, although she has travelled to other locations
to conduct workshops. She develops classes and teaches adult spiritual studies at an Episcopal church, and she helps a couple of times a month as a kindergarden volunteer. Her clients and students include lawyers, doctors, mediators, teachers, occupational therapists, and other holistic healers (such as acupuncturists and massage therapists), and more. She has written for national publication on spiritual topics, and you can benefit from her written work by returning to the home page of this website and accessing the "library".
Some of Anne Marie's other favorite activities are contra dancing, being in nature, creating art, and doing virtually anything with her three grandchildren. In fact, her three grandchildren are why she relocated from Bowie, Maryland to Hunterdon County, NJ.
Anne Marie's broadly-based interests and life experience as well as her studies of energy modalities help her to bring it all together with her mission which relates to empowering others to be in alignment and balance. When we are, miracles seem to happen, the entire universe seems to cooperate with us, and we tend to work more constructively in a
more holistic way.
